I'd like to share an Extra Special Story with you, that I recently shared at a LIVE event with over two thousand people.
I'll never forget a conversation that I had about six years ago when I was in New York visiting my family during the December Holidays. At that time in my career, I had been with a number of different networking companies in our industry.
Since I
was not yet ready for the success I was preparing for, my family
began asking me for the hundreth time when I was going to start
making money, get a real job, even grow up!
You see, I had made a couple thousand here and a few thousand there, but that was not the problem. The real problem was that I wasn't leading anyone.
Very few people wanted to do what I was doing, because I made it too complicated and un-duplicable. In other words, I made it all about me and not about the tools or system, which if I had used more of, I'm sure I would have acheived the success that I was seeking much sooner.
Anyway, at the time of this particular conversation, I was a single guy, living in San Diego California, in a small one bedroom apartment. I was up to my ears in debt, had very little income and was running out of room on my credit cards.
One night while I was staying at my brother's house, he asked me why I traveled with so many books and why I brought them to his house.
I explained that I was working on myself, re-programming my mind, changing my beliefs and re-inventing who I was, by reading books about success, about money, about investments and about other successful people. Yes, I would do this with every opportunity, even if for just a few minutes at a time.
His exact reaction was this:
"HA, HA, HA! You think by reading books you are going to make more money? Are you serious? None of that stuff ever works. If it did, everyone would be reading more books and making more money. So...are you telling me that if I read more books, I'd make more money? What a joke! What does reading books have to do with being successful?"
And then he turned and walked into another room, ending that conversation. This was back in the year 2000.
Fast forward to the present. Times have certainly changed for me, and for my brother too.
My Brother works a 50+ hour per week job, is away from his family all day, every day, gone first thing in the morning, home last thing before his kid's bedtime at night, travels alone on business trips and reports to me that he is very unhappy with his situation. He commutes every day, sitting in traffic for hours, always on the go, never much time to rest and relax. His biggest wish is that he could have more time to spend with his family.
I on the other hand have the exact opposite lifestyle. I work 20-25 hrs per week, am with my family all day everyday, travel and vacation 4-5 times per year with my family and generate a multiple 6 figure income. However, this message is not about me. It's far bigger than that.
So, let me get right to the point.
When I met my wife, Sophia, she was a single parent. Carter, her 3 1/2 year old son, quickly became a part of my life and has become one of the most important and inspirational people I've ever known.
Let me explain...
Every night, before I met Sophia, from the day Carter could speak, she would have Carter put his hand on his heart and say, "I can do anything I set my mind to." Yes, it was a little difficult to understand him I'm sure, but he understood.
Then, when I met Sophia and Carter, I joined in the festivities with them every night before Carter went to bed and we'd all say and do it together.
This has been going on now for over 2 years, every night that Carter sleeps at our home, after a good book and some talk about the next day's schedule.
More recently, we began adding some new ideas for Carter to marinate on and now, at almost 6 years old, every night before we shut the lights, he tells us:
- With a hand over his heart, "Mommy, Aaron, I can
do anything I set my mind to."
- With his hand on his forehead, "Mommy, Aaron, I
have a Millionaire Mind."
- With his hands raised in the air, "Mommy, Aaron,
It's great to be Self Employed."
- With a big hug for his Mommy & Aaron, "I am
a Money Magnet!"
You see, Carter cannot read books like Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki or The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen. Instead, he has people who love and care enough about him, to help him fill his mind with big thoughts and beliefs about who he is and what he is capable of. Sophia & I have replaced the books about success, until Carter is old enough to read them on his own, which shouldn't be too long from now!
At six years old, Carter is being conditioned to be his own boss, be comfortable with money and be anything he wants. He doesn't just want to play in the sandbox, he wants to own the sandbox. And his belief system is so strong that he doesn't know anything except that he can.
So, my point is this. No matter where you are today, you can change. You can become whomever you wish to be. You can do anything you set your mind to. You can have anything you want out of life.
You just must fill your own mind with the right thoughts and beliefs and take action on them every day.
As you may have heard, Sophia & I enrolled Carter in Tae Kwon Do this past summer. After earning his Yellow Belt, he began preparing for his Orange Belt Test.
Listen and watch the below video very carefully and when it is over, think for a moment about how important being around successful people truly is, how important reading books about success and money is, and how important it is that you never, ever quit, no matter who tells you to pack it up, and go HOME!
Turn up your speakers and listen very closely to the dialogue that takes place around Carter, during some of the most important 5 minutes of his life.
Thanks for taking the time to read my message and enjoy the video below.
